View Car Tyre Tread Wear Indicator Pictures. They appear as flat rubber bars running perpendicular to the direction of the tread. So, if your tire's tread depth hasn't been if the tread touches washington's head, you have at least 4/32 inch of tread remaining.
They allow the driver to know when they should replace their tyres.
Having worn tyres means the only contact patch between you and the road is past. If your tread gets below that your car's ability to grip the road in adverse conditions is greatly reduced. That way they should all need replacement at the same time. When the tyre's tread depth is down to 1.6 mm (1/16 inch), the tread will be level in height with the tread wear indicators.
